INFORMATION TO MAKE YOUR SEASON GO SMOOTHLY
Swimmer participation is important to develop team unity and earn points towards a team victory. There will be a Sign-in/Sign-out book available on the pool deck during practice. Parents/Swimmers need to fill out the book at least TWO weeks prior to a scheduled meet. Our meet entries are all done by parent volunteers via the computer. Those entries must then be sent to the other team. With sometimes close to 300 swimmers total this can be time consuming and we (or the computer contact at the away pool) are unable to accomodate frequent last minute additions, withdrawls and changes to entries. If you do not sign-in or sign-out we will assume that you are not able to attend the meet. If a swimmer becomes ill or is unexpectedly unable to attend a meet at the last minute, that swimmer or parent should contact the board or coaches as soon as possible through the hotline or e-mail. Empty lanes due to no-shows at our meets mean a loss of points for the team and a missed chance for someone else to swim another event. It can also mean 3 other swimmers miss a chance to swim in a relay.
In league/dual meets, swimmers may swim up to 3 individual events and two relays. The participation of a swimmer in any event is by coaches’ decision, based on a variety of factors. We will try to post the meet entries a day or two before the meet, so swimmers and parents will know their swim schedule prior to the beginning of the meet. Most swim clubs mandate that meets be finished within a three hour time limit, so not all swimmers will be able to swim their maximum allowable entries (another reason to let us know if you will not be there). Swimmers that have achieved “A” times, in previous league meets or invitationals for specific events, will not be allowed to participate in “B” meets in those events in their age group. We will try to accomodate "A" swimmers moving up to a higher age group only if there are available slots. So "A" swimmers, please still continue to sign-in to "B" meets. "B" swimmers will not get bumped from a "B" meet for an "A" swimmer. Swimmers that haven’t achieved “A” times might still be asked to swim “A” meets, so please sign-in to a meet but check the entries prior to the meet. Qualifying times are posted on the web site and in the handbook (look under rule/records/times tab then go to Skimmer Handbook). Parent Volunteers It is very important for parents to volunteer during meets. We will not be able to run our meets without a full staff of volunteers. Signups for all meets will be available on the pool deck daily. We have a variety of jobs to fill; timers, ribbon writers, computer, starter, judges, shepherds for the younger swimmers as well as snack bar. All parents of swimmers, not in the 15-18 group, are required to volunteer during the meet (both home and away) in which their child is swimming. Your swimmer may not swim if there is no family or family representative fulfilling the family work requirement. While this is harsh it is necessary to ensure fairness to all our Skimmer families.
